Saltee Islands ireland

60

The Saltee Islands, St. George’s Channel consisting of the Great and Little Saltee, are situated approximately 5 kilometers off the coast of Kilmore Quay Co.Wexford. The larger island Great Saltee is the most famous bird sanctuary in Ireland and is very popular with both day-trippers and birdwatchers alike, because of the remoteness and the beautiful scenery. These Islands are privately owned and are one of the world’s major bird sanctuaries …

Lovely day out, especially if you like bird watching. The island can be walked in an hour but longer as you will no doubt be busy taking photographs. Only one private house on the island. No cover so bring jackets as the Irish weather can produce rain showers . Pack a lunch as there is no Mcdonalds on the island . The first boat is at 11.00am and the latest pick up time is 4.00 pm pick up time.
The boat trip over is 25 mins and is lovely and is reasonably priced for a relaxing day away from it all.
Not for kids under four as stepping off boat onto rocks to reach island can be tricky , depending on tide.
Really lovely experience
